How to choose the right stocks

Problem is there is no easy place on the Web where you can get this info for Indian Stocks. The economic times publishes the PE ration daily, but EPS growth i guess will only be found in the Dalal Street Journal or Capital Market.

Also refer to The Little Book that beats the market, has a fairly interesting story on how stocks can be bought based on ther ROC and PE ratio. Again numbers unavailable easily for Indian stocks.

RED HERRING | Big Music Takes on Steve Jobs

SK Telecom followed up last year’s acquisition of YBM Seoul Records, South Korea’s biggest music company, by forging a joint venture with Warner Music Korea. The recently completed deal marked the first time a major music company fully merged its operations with those of a communications network to create a technology-content hybrid to make music available on cell phones and other digital platforms.

RED HERRING | Blogs Start Job Boards

Greaat ! , so someone other than me finally caught on, oh wait this written by Priya Ganapati, who i guess was with Rediff earlier. Anyway, they're in it for the money as per quote below.

Thanks Alok for the post telling me you're in it to help. Mr. Fried ( curious name) seems to be saying the same thing at the end of the quote..

Quote from article

"Job listings have become a lucrative source of revenue for blogmasters. 37 Signals’ industry job board has generated $100,000 in revenue so far, said Mr. Fried.

37 Signals charges $250 for a 30-day listing on its board. Compare that to $75 for a Craigslist job posting. Market leader Monster.com costs $400 a listing, but for a 60-day period.

Still, said Mr. Fried, the 37 Signals board offers great value because it helps companies reach the right kind of audience."

Part II: Indian Domainer Business Dominated By Individuals | ContentSutra

Challenging for now, one, everybody goes to .com domains most of the time, second, indian advertisers are few and far between, Google and possibly Yahoo, Ebay are working on developing this, but it will take time, finally per clickthru revenue would still be low, unless traffic comes from abroad and clickthru revenue is not Rupee but Dollar based.

YouTube could be a steal at $1 billion | CNET News.com

Guess it's the old 1999 days back again, nobody has a clue to monetizing online video but they comnand a premium, how far will ad supported models go, as currently no there is no company offering ads for user generated videos.Incidentally this is one of the ideas on the Business 2.0 $100 million giveaway list.

I think it would be revolve around a mix of online storage, subscription, ads, and premium content, you use the free videos to get people to your site and since most of this would be fairly poor quality clips in terms of quality and content, people would them be willing to pay a premium for good content, higher quality/resolution clips.

Good Content always wins !

NEW DELHI, AUG 16 :  India is taking over the world wide web in a big way outpacing the world—including big brothers like US, China, Japan and Germany in terms of growth in online population.

India's online population, measured in terms of people aged over 15 years accessing internet, rose 7.8% to 18.02 million in June, from 16.71 million three months ago in march, a latest survey from US-based technology research firm Comscore Networks reveals.

The growth in the country's online population outscores the rise of 2.7% in the the world's overall online audience size, which rose to 713 million in June, from 694 million in March this year.

India has also become the ninth biggest country in terms of the total online population from its 10th position three months ago, while the US has retained its top slot with 153 million of web users. According to Internet & Mobile Association of India), total Indian online populations stands at 38 million users.

IAMAI President Subho Ray said: “The growth is higher in India due to a low base. The high economic growth and rapidly growing mobile population along with low broadband rates are also boosting growth.” At $5 per month, India has got the lowest broadband rates in the world. The respective figures for France, Korea, Japan are $35, $25 and $20, respectively.

Interestingly, the Comscore figures exclude the traffic from access through cyber cafes, mobile phones or PDAs. The total number of people accessing internet could be much higher if those aged below 15 years and the public computer data and new-age mediums such as mobiles and pdas are also taken into consideration.

The number of internet visitors rose less than 1% in the US, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, while UK, France and Australia have actually registered a decline from the March 2006 levels.

According to the Comscore June world metrix report published on Wednesday, China witnessed the second-biggest jump of 5.22%, Russia witnessed 5.14% growth, while online population of Japan, Korea, Canada and Brazil grew between 2%-4%.

The US continued to have the highest online population across the world of 153 million, which accounted for 21% of the all worldwide unique visitors, while India accounted for 2.5% of the worldwide total.

China maintained its second position with 78.31 million online population followed by Japan and Germany with 53.10 million and 31.97 million respectively.

With the phone and the music device converging, this was bound to happen, recently i was on the lookout for a phone that had MP3, FM, and a camera and the Nokia 6233 fits the bill nicely, no Itunes integration though. think vertical integration for Nokia might not do the trick, consumers are often drawn to the brand and Itunes is a bigger brand than Loudeye or whatever Nokia renames it will ever be.

But then again Moto Rokr was never a sucess was it ?

          August 4th, 2006 by praviny

Why does every one covering Web 2.0 like Techcrunch, Alarm clock and closer home Venturewoods starting a jobs site. Is it that it makes good business sense to have a revenue stream which your coverage anyway feeds automatically or that it fulfills the needs of the audience of this site, they know what’s the latest and coolest and now they can become part of it or is it that the regular job search engines do not cover startup jobs. Any other examples of this latest trend ?"
